Qingyuan pencil industry originated in 1980, after 38 years of development, the pencil industry has gradually formed a complete industrial chain including softening plate, pencil core, eraser head, printing, painting, packaging, logistics, etc. In 2010, China Light Industry Federation and China Pen Association awarded Qingyuan County the title of "China (Qingyuan) Pencil Production Base". The title of "China (Qingyuan) Pencil Production Base" was awarded by China Light Industry Federation and China Pen Association.

In 2019, nearly 40 pencil production and supporting enterprises in Qingyuan County completed the production of about 4.8 billion pencils, accounting for 27% of the national proportion. It is here that Hongxing Stationery Co. was founded, grew and expanded, with a production of 1.5 billion pencils in 2019, accounting for about 30% of the county's output.
